Canvas Health is dedicated to offering hope and help to children, adolescents, adults, the elderly and families who struggle with aging, transportation, chemical and mental health, and domestic and sexual abuse.

In 2011, Canvas Health, in partnership with Carlton County, launched a TXT4LIFE pilot program for youth in crisis. The TXT4Life program uses texting as a way for those in crisis or contemplating suicide to reach out and ask for help. Today, TXT4Life is an award-winning, innovative program that has received the attention and support from the state Legislature, which has allocated money to begin rolling out the program statewide.

Women leaders raise powerful funds for local charities, build relationships

SHOREVIEW – Raising money in support of local charities has been the driving force behind an initiative launched by a group of women.

Since 2012 women in the Shoreview area have been pooling their funds to support worthy local charities. Shoreview resident Lisa Mattson is one of 10 women who founded The Power of 100, an organization designed to support a select set of Minnesota area charities.  Co-founder Pam Maccani told her friends of an idea she had found for a giving group, where every member of a group gave a certain amount of money to a single charity or cause. “It’s just a way to give back and a way to feel like you’re making a contribution to a charity serving our community,” Maccani said.

Richard M. Schulze Will Provide Matching Funds Through Pilot Program

In the two years since the organization’s founding, charitable donations from “The Power of 100 – Twin Cities Women Who Care” have exceeded $100,000 to local charities. The organization, founded in September 2012, to-date has raised $100,230 for nine local charities, including its most recent donation in September to “Cars for Neighbors.” Cars for Neighbors, founded in 1999 under the name “Free To Be,” is a non-profit organization that assists Anoka County residents who are challenged with transportation issues.

The mission of Accessible Space is to provide accessible, affordable, assisted/supportive and independent living opportunities for persons with physical disabilities and brain injuries, as well as seniors. This mission is accomplished through the development and cost-effective management of accessible, affordable housing, as well as the provision of assisted/supportive living and rehabilitation services.

That’s the formula of The Power of 100 – Twin Cities Women Who Care. Imagine the power of 100-plus women, gathered together for one hour, four times a year, with a willingness to share $100 with a deserving charity. That makes a minimum $10,000 donation four times a year.

The mission of Cars for Neighbors is driving change for families in Anoka County by offering car repair assistance or donated cars, to qualifying families. Over the past 14 years, the organization has donated nearly 900 cars and repaired more than 3,500 cars for families in need.

One  Heartland’s mission is to “Improve the lives of children, youth and families facing significant health challenges or social isolation.” Their vision is for a “world where everyone feels appreciated, celebrated and free of stigma and discrimination. We want a community where individuals have the opportunity to learn and grow so that they may lead healthier and more productive lives.”
